2012 - Feature, "Single, a Documentary Film" (re-released with bonus features, "Single by Divorce" and "The Politics of Single"). Co-written, co-produced and co-directed with Jane Scandurra, the film became a "Pick of the Week" and hit their best-selling documentaries list.


The Berkshire International Film Festival (Sunday Series); New York New Filmmaker Summer Series.


"Single" was described by Tiffanie Greene, NY film critic, as "brilliantly done" and by Juliet Huddy on Fox TV as "a really cool, cool documentary".

The film, about the growth of the single population in the USA and overseas, has been written up in numerous publications. It examines the trends and influences behind the shift and the difficulty of maintaining lasting relationships. The cast consists of experts, singer/songwriters, comedians and "real" people (a Go Pictures and FIlms LLC Production).



2009 - Richard produced and directed two music videos - one solo and one duet - for the launch of the "Wink if you Want it" TM clothing brand ( An Atkinson LLC production.



2009 - RIchard directed episodes of "Intersection", a dramatic series, for Myriad Arts Productions.



2010 (released) - Richard co-directed and co-produced with Dore Hammond, "Pluck", (an Atkinson-Hammond Productions 1, LLC production) a film about luminaries who contributed to politics, media, fashion, the arts and publishing in the cultural milieu of NYC in the 1950's and early 1960's. The film appeared in numerous festivals and is available on Indieflix, Hulu and other platforms.

Featured in the Hulu 2010 selection of NYC Docs; Winner "Best Documentary" at the Carolina Film and Video Festival.



Richard was credited as Associate Producer for the Myriad Arts Productions feature film, "Home Coming".



2005 - Richard co-directed short, "Divine Light" (a Dore Hammond film), with Dore Hammond, a perspective about the legendary New York Arts League teacher, Frank Mason, who painted in the style of the Old Masters.


Richard Atkinson's interest in documentary films began at the age of 17 when he was one of the cameramen on an 8,000 mile overland expedition to the mountainous borders of Turkey, Iran and Iraq filming the Kurdish way of life. The expedition was written up in the Sunday Telegraph Magazine (UK), one of the UK's most read publications.



Richard's work has screened at the Los Angeles Move Awards 2011 (winner Honorable Mention); ITN Distribution Film and New Media Festival 2011 (winner "Best Film (USA), winner "Feature Audience Award); La Femme International Film Festival, Los Angeles; The Big Apple Film Festival, NY (BAFF), Filmi SE Asian Festival (Showcase Feature), Toronto; Hulu NYC 2010 (Doc. selection); The Berkshire International Film Festival (Sunday Series), The Westchester Film Festival, NY; New York New Filmmaker Summer Series; Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films; Avignon/New York Film Festival; The National Academy of Television, Arts and Sciences; Tiburon Film Festival; Carolina Film and Video Festival (winner Best Documentary); The National Arts Club, NY; Soho House, NY; East Hampton Guild Hall, NY; Bronxville Film Series, NY; New Canaan Film Series, CT; and the Harvard Independent Film Group.

On radio Richard's films have been discussed on KCFO (San Diego) and WBCR and WVOX (NY Tri-State area).



His work forms part of the permanent collection of The Hoover Institute at Stanford Univesity and can be found in the libraries at Duke University; Northwestern University; St. Mary's  Unversity of Minnesota; Brigham Young University; University of Wisconsin; Ohio University; Calvin University and pulic libraries at Indianapolis-Marion County; Niles Ela area district; Douglas County; St. Charles district; Rchester district; North Cent regional district; Live Oak district; Darien, CT; Bronxville, NY; Stamford, CT and the Freemont Library District to name a few.


Richard received a BA (Hons.) from Leed University, UK and studied Film Production and later Directing for Film at NYU SCPS and Camera and Technology at the International FIlm and TV Workshops, Rockport, Maine.


DOGS LIE is based on the stageplay of the same name written by Ronnie Cohen and Jane Beale which played Off Broadway NYC. Much of the drama takes place in the uniquely surreal confines of a sleep clinic . The Patients and Clinicians  lives become dangerously entwined as dark secrets are revealed and relationships unravel.The beautiful Lucia finds herself the center of attention. Blackmail, Romance and Murder ensue.

THE CAST was assembled in the most part by Brette Goldstein NY who brought a wealth of talent to the project.Her skills as an actors coach and casting director helped define the right actor for key roles. CINEMATOGRAPHY. Director of Photography Colin Lewis worked tirelessly with the Director and A/C ( camera 2) Albert Elmazovski to create a unique style using obtuse angles, sticks and hand held to accentuate the drama and tension as it mounts.

EDITING.  Albert Elmazovski's love of film and work as A/C on the shoot made him the obvious choice when it came to selecting an editor. Elmazovski knew the footage intimately and was able to convey the tension or humor of a scene as he had experienced it either on the set or on location .
